Council Seeking Support to have Bennett Springs Bridge Replaced

Boorowa Council is currently developing plans to replace the Bennett Springs Bridge over the Boorowa River on Bennett Springs Road.
The existing bridge is an old timber structure that is costly to maintain, currently load limited at 20 tonnes and presents a significant impediment to productivity for businesses in the area including farms and a quarry.
Council has allocated half the estimated cost to replace the bridge in its current year’s budget and is relying on matching grant funding to ensure the bridge replacement can go ahead.
To ensure that Council has the strongest possible business case to try and secure the grant funding required, Council is requesting that the community provide Council with submissions outlining the impact the bridge is currently having and the practical benefits associated with its replacement.
“The better the evidence base we can develop to demonstrate need, the greater our chances of receiving funding will be” said Councils General Manager Anthony McMahon.
Submissions may also address the detrimental effect that the reduced load limit has on farming practices and the length of detours that must be used when the load limit is in effect.
To be included with the grant submission, letters of support must be received by Council no later than 26 August 2015. Letters can be addressed to:
