$478k for Bennett Springs Bridge Replacement
The announcement by the Federal Government Bridges Renewal Program to fund $478,000 towards the Bennett Springs Bridge replacement has been welcomed by Boorowa Council.
Bennett Springs Bridge is a low lying single lane Timber Bridge that is affected in times of heavy rainfall, with an average closure of 5 days per year due to flooding. The bridge is load limited to 20 tonnes.
On receiving the news, Mayor Wendy Tuckerman was clearly elated, “Council is delighted that this project can now be completed, the upgrading of Bennett Springs Bridge to a two lane concrete structure will provide economic benefits to our community, as well as addressing safety and access concerns.”
She also stated “Member for Hume Angus Taylor commended Council on their application and the work done to secure the funding, more pleasing for Council is that it is the last timber bridge in the Boorowa Local Government Area to be replaced”
The replacement of Bennett Springs Bridge will be undertaken between March and September 2016, with Council staff currently undertaking initial planning to ensure a successful project, it is anticipated there will be minimal disruption to traffic whilst the new bridge is under construction.
