Boorowa Community Garden Set to Bloom
The Boorowa Community Garden Committee is partnering with Boorowa Council to establish a community garden to be located in the area between the Boorowa Skate Park and Pudman Street.
After an extensive planning stage, work is finally set to begin with the erection of a rainwater tank and garden shed to house tools for the garden.
“The concept of the garden stemmed from a group of passionate community members who approached Council for support and have been instrumental in getting the project started” said Council’s General Manager, Anthony McMahon.
A community garden has the potential to provide an educational environment in which gardening enthusiasts can share knowledge and learn about innovative solutions to waste minimization and recycling through processes such as composting and mulching.
It can also be a very valuable community collaboration tool, providing those who participate in the growing and sharing of garden produce a sense of ownership and stewardship.
“The development of a community garden in Boorowa will diversify the uses of our open areas and provide a green space for both passive and active recreation for all members of our community. This initiative has the potential to grow food, but also a sense of community and provide new opportunities for social interaction,” said Mr. McMahon.
A garden shed and water tank will be installed in the area first, with the garden bedding to happen soon after.
